GH Jason's
Big "Confession"
Jason had laid down the facts to Courtney before - their marriage was over. But
it wasn't until he hit her with the startling (and untrue!) news that Sam was
going to have his baby that it finally sunk in. "Thank you for delivering
the news in person. I don't think I would have believed it from anyone
else," she said, unable to make eye contact. He could see how deeply his
confession was cutting into her and how stoic she was nevertheless trying to
be. "You're going to be a wonderful father, Jason, and I'm sure you'll be
happy." Overwhelmed with emotions she didn't want to share, she started to
walk away. Jason stopped her in her tracks. "There's a baby now, and I
have to take care of it," he reasoned, his voice soft and comforting.
"Sam was involved with Sonny, Jason," Courtney said, her eyebrows
raised. "Why would you sleep with her?" Then a light bulb lit in her
head. "You slept with Sam to push Sonny and Carly back together, didn't
you?" After he acknowledged that's how it all began, she smiled
uncomfortably. "It's kind of crazy how things happen," she said
sadly, connecting with his tear-filled eyes. "You and I loved each other,
and our baby wasn't meant to be. And then you and Sam have a meaningless fling,
and just like that, you're having a baby. Maybe it's a good thing. I couldn't
let go of you, and now I have to. Our lives are just taking us in different
directions. So... it's really over, Jason." Pain filled their faces as he
acknowledged her assessment with a nod, then walked past her, turning to take
one last look. Although the characters were filled to overflowing with emotion,
it was everything that remained under the surface and hidden that gave the
scene its power. And nobody pulls off that mean feat any better than Steve
Burton and Alicia Leigh Willis.
