Here Comes The Bride
But who’s getting married - Jason and Courtney, or Ric and
Elizabeth?
This week on General Hospital, people are making proposals
and accepting them - and not in that order! Confused? You haven’t heard the
half of it! As Ric forges ahead with his master plan to use Courtney against Sonny,
Jason finally is ready to take the plunge and commit to his girlfriend. And all
the while, Faith is slinking around, plotting to stop at least one if the
weddings by staging a funeral if she has to.
It’s I-do-or die time for all your favorites. Here’s the scoop!
Sonny Gives In
While Carly urges Jason o seize his best ever chance at
happiness and marry Courtney, Ric coerces the Mob enforcer’s moll into tying
the knot with him. If she doesn’t go along, Ric promises that Jason will go to
prison. “This is nothing more than a blatant, in-your-face act to Sonny, saying
‘I will do anything and everything within my power to disrupt your life,’” says
Rick Hearst (Ric).
Later, when Sonny catches wind that Carly’s been
micromanaging Jason and Courtney’s lives, he chastises his wife. But, against all odds, he also gives Jason
permission to marry his half sister. “Jason was going day to day doing his job.
Never really thinking about his life,” says Steve Burton who plays the
enforcer. “Then Faith ran Courtney down with the car, and he saw her on the
ground. That was the first time he
actually started thinking about his future.”
Liz Says Yes! (Oh No!)
Meanwhile, Faith, who believes Ric is about to propose to
Elizabeth, issues a warning to the girl: Dump Ric or die! But for better or worse, Liz isn’t about to
let a little death threat come between her and the man she loves. Unaware that the engagement ring he bought
wasn’t for her, she happily accepts him proposal… only to discover he’s
planning to wed someone else.
“Elizabeth is really upset with herself,” says her portrayer Rebecca
Herbst. “She calls him crazy. But it’s
more that she thinks she’s crazy, that she’s stupid. She can’t believe she actually let herself believe him.”
Adds Hearst: “It’s almost like Ric woke up in a nightmare.
He has to explain to Liz what he’s done. It’s almost like he’s explaining it to
himself. It’s devastating to her, because she knows he’s not marrying Courtney
because he loves her. She knows it has
to do with his vendetta against his brother.”
Jason Gets A Shock!
Elsewhere, Courtney gives Jason an enthusiastic yes when he
asks her to marry him. But, she reluctantly
adds, she’s already engaged! After she fills in her true love on Ric’s
blackmail scheme, they agree that she’ll continue to the charade until her hero
can find the incriminating evidence that Ric has. “Ric’s got to be sick in the head to actually go there,” Alicia
Leigh Willis (Courtney) theorizes. “Anyone who would do something like that has
got to have some serious issues.
“Yeah, she’s angry with him, “ the actress continues. “But
part of her feels really sorry for him, because he’s pathetic. She’s got to buy herself some time to figure
out how she’s going to handle this. She wants out of this situation without
hurting anybody - including herself.”
Faith Attacks!
At the same time, Faith plants a snake in Elizabeth’s
studio, hoping to scare the painter into slithering away from Ric. That, it
does. Plus it bites the artist, and she is rushed to GH. She’s fine, thank
goodness. But her blood tests reveal
that she’s pregnant! She immediately wants to abort the baby, but Carly
attempts to talk her out of it.
Shortly, when Ric shows up, Elizabeth assumes that Carly
told him about her pregnancy, and she unwittingly tells him he’s going to be a
daddy! “When Elizabeth finds out she’s pregnant, it’s such a huge shock. She is
not ready for this,” says Herbst. “She
tells Ric, ‘It’s my body. It’s my life. I’m going to do what’s right for me.”
Even though he’s the father, she wants him to have no part in this. She doesn’t
want him in her life at all.”
However, Ric has different plans. Hearst explains: “Children
are an opportunity for all of us to ‘get it right.’ In that, this is a hope for
Ric to really be able to invest in something that he didn’t get and that maybe
he can give to his child.”
Ah, but first, the mixed up foursome must resolve one little
issue: Who’s going to marry whom? And at this rate who’ll live long enough to
tie the knot?!
