Jason & Courtney Recall a Sad Day

A year had gone by since the devastating loss of Courtney and Jason's unborn baby. Unfortunately, because their feelings had remained unspoken, time hadn't healed their wounds. On the anniversary of the tragedy, they had a chance encounter on the docks. Their sadness was impossible to mask. "I truly thought that I was over it. But then last night, I glanced at the calendar," Courtney said, almost in a whisper. "I remember waking up in the clinic and hearing the doctors say that I'd lost our baby. Then I remembered thinking that Jason doesn't even know. I never told him about our baby... and I'll always be sorry for that." Courtney wiped away a tear, as Jason opened up for the first time about losing his child. "All I wanted was for you to just wake up and know that I was with you." The depth of the surfacing emotions was more than he cared to share, so he looked away. After quietly acknowledging that they both had survived life without their baby, Courtney made another difficult admission. "I do miss what we could have had," she confessed. "This morning, I woke up and I thought about being more than just okay. And I remembered how it felt to be carrying your child." Jason tried to ease her agony with support. "I don't know if that kind of pain gets easier over time or if you just bury it deeper," he said. "But I want it to be easier for you. And if it helps to know someone else remembers, I do. And I always will." Knowing that was all the comfort Courtney needed. What made this scene so impressive was its tone. It was gentle and quiet. It spoke from the heart not the head. It was their eyes connecting and welling up. And, most importantly, it was the truth behind the rawness.
