The Best Is Yet To Come --- April 15 SID Story --- ABC Daytime President Brian Scott Frons reviews today's GENERAL HOSPITAL --- as well as teases the exciting stories ahead.

How Sweeps It is!

Frons' voice is rich with both pride and fan-like enthusiasm as he assays his enjoyment of today's --- and tomorrow's --- GH. "When writers are in a groove --- and right now [GH co-headwriters] Chuck [Pratt Jr.] and Bob [Guza Jr.} are in a groove --- I can't wait to get my outlines," he shares. "When I sit down to read them, it's like a page-turner."

In fact, he says, "I read the script outlines for the week before [May] sweeps and the material is just unbelievably good. The texture of the show, the richness of the tapestry, has me so excited, because it isn't just great Sonny/Carly/Jason/Courtney stuff --- which it is --- but there also is wonderful stuf for Alexis, Ned, the new Emily, the Quartermines, Jax, Skye... It was as if [Guza and Pratt] had gone away and come back with a point of view, a story, for every character on the canvas.

A New Life For Jason

So what tops Frons' list when it comes to GH"s current storylines? "Jason/Courtney, Jason/Courtney, Jason/Courtney," he answers, citing the couple he has championed since assuming his duties at ABC last August. "I don't want to put a curse on them, but they have that 'super couple' kind of snappy feel to them. When she looks at him and he looks at her, you get that rush of emotion, the sense that these two should be together.

"It's an exciting thing to watch the beginning of a couple who you believe had a real destiny to them," he adds.

Further fueling Frons' fire is the new, somewhat antagonistic dynamic between Jason and longtime mentor Sonny that has been born out of the mob lieutenant's romance with his ex-boss' sister. "By the end of the next few months, that friendship can never be the same," he cautions. "Jason is going to come into his own and fill his space in a way that he has never done."

Married To The Max

Speaking of Port Charles' mob scene, another story that has Frons --- as well as scores of passionate viewers --- jazzed is the blissful-one-day/devastated-the-next marriage between Sonny and Carly.

"Too often, I think, we make a statements about marriage that are so negative --- that you only get married because you're blackmailed, or because the guy is the father or your baby or whatever," he observes. "But here are two people that are flawed human beings, like the rest of us, who will do anything to stay together. And I think that's really cool."

Bringing Back The Hospital

A third of the storyline that has the ABC Daytime boss cheering is one that has barely hit the screen yet---and that's the off-rumored and long awaited return of Emily Quartermine (now portrayed by soap newcomer Natalia Livingston). "I am really pumped about that story," Frons shares. "Emily is a character of great emotional resonance on this canvas and I think she'll really bring General Hospital back to the hospital."

The hospital? How so? Frons is tight lipped, only saying, "Bob and Chuck have come up with a story that draws on EMily's history, and it is a tear-jerker of the first order.

"I can't tell you what it's about," he adds in conclusion, "but there is a Monica/Emily scene in the hospital that will leave you in tears."
