She walked towards the classroom, searching the room she
didn't see him. Disappointment grew
with in her and she sat down. The class
was boring and she didn't pay much attention.
She left and walked down to the lounge for lunch. On her way she ran into Brian.
"Hey hun, do you wanna grab some lunch with me?"
his eyes were pleading.
"Umm, sure but I have to get back to my dorm
soon." She was lying through her teeth, she was meeting Jason so that they
could go out for lunch but she didn't tell Brian that.
"ok, it won't take long for me to tell you what I want
to tell you." They walked in and sat down at a table. Courtney only ordered an apple and Brian
ordered a sub.
"Holly, over these past 2 years you have been so much
to me, my light, my love, my life." Courtney could tell what was coming,
he was going to propose. She had to
come up with a reason to leave and fast.
"Umm, Brian this is going to have to wait. I have to go, I have a class on the other
side of campus." She practically sprinted out of the lounge and towards
the meeting spot for her and Jason.
When she arrived she slipped into Jason's arms and they walked towards
his motorcycle together.
"Why were you running?" he started the
conversation.
"Ummm, do you really want to know?" she hadn't
wanted to tell him but he deserved to know.
"Of course I do, is something wrong?" he was
concerned, he didn't want anything to happen to her before he got to tell her
how he really felt.
"Brian was going to propose to me, but I left before he
could." She reassured him with a smile.
"If he asks you will you say yes?" he held his
breath waiting for her answer.
"No, not at all, why would you think that. I haven't even told the guy that I love
him. I don't love him." She didn't
want to tell him how she felt until the time was right so she waited. They pulled into the restaurant and he
helped her off of the bike.
"I miss your blonde hair…." He still loved her in
every way but when she had this dark hair it reminded him of the other man that
was still involved in the story.
"This stuff will be coming out soon and when it does I
am going to tell Brian the truth and then we will all be fine." She was so
sure that everything would work out.
They didn't talk about much during lunch. When they got back to campus Jason began to talk serious,
"ok, so meet me here again tonight and we will find someplace to sit and
talk." He knew where he wanted to
go, the only question was could he get there in time?
She knew that tonight was going to be important. They were going to talk about what happened
but they were also going to talk about what was going to happen. They were crunched on time; they were
leaving at midnight but had to be back by two.
She chose her outfit carefully.
She decided on a pair of jeans and a PCU sweatshirt.
Jason couldn't stop thinking about her the entire time he
was stuck on the phone with Liz. She
wanted to come over; she was in building 7 so she was far away. Jason told her he was tired and that he had
homework, which was a lie, but he didn't care. When she finally said goodnight,
"I love you, goodnight babe." He felt like he was going to barf and
then got ready for his meeting with Courtney.
He chose a black tee-shirt and a pair of jeans and left worried about
the time.
They met up and Courtney smiled at him, she had removed her
contacts, blue eyes shined at him when he leaned down to kiss her on the cheek.
"We have to get going; we are kind of short on time you
know." He pulled her hand towards the motorcycle.
"Where are we going?" she had no idea where he was
taking her, but she didn't care, as long as she was with him.
"Ohh I have a place in mind." He smiled childishly
and sat on the bike. She followed him
and wrapped her arms around his middle, she leaned in and inhaled his scent,
and it hadn't changed, she was glad to be there with him. They drove listening only to the sound of
the bike on the street. Jason pulled up
to the Q's boat house and parked the bike.
"Ummm Jason, where are we?" she pulled off her
helmet and fixed her hair.
"My family's boat house" he opened the door with
his key and opened the door.
"Ok then….." she walked in and looked around. There were a bunch of old boating supplies
shoved in the back corner and a fireplace took up most of one wall. There was a couch in front of it, that was
about it, the rest had boating equipment, a boat, nothing interesting.
"Take a seat." Jason gestured towards the couch
and Courtney sat down in, Jason sat down on the opposite end not wanting to go
to fast for her. Courtney wondered why
he was keeping his distance but decided to act upon it not let it sit. She inched closer to him and he took that as
permission to sit next to her. They
both moved together and Jason wrapped his arm around her waist.
"So, how are Carly and Sonny?" she was dying to
know how her best friend was doing.
"Carly was miserable after you left, but Sonny helped
her through it. They both went to Florida
for college; they are coming back up for Christmas though." He didn't want
to talk about these people he wanted to know about Courtney; learn all that he
had missed.
"That’s great, but I promised my grandmother I would go
back to California for Christmas."
"Courtney you can't go back, we haven't spent one
Christmas together and now you are back here and you want to leave me
again?"
"Jason I never wanted to leave you, I had no choice, my
step dad… I am so sorry I wish I had called you, or found you when you were in
California, I was just so-" she was stopped by Jason's finger at her lips.
"Don't apologize, you didn't do anything wrong. All you did was what you thought was
right. I am so sorry that I acted the
way I did." He was close to saying it, so close but he stopped, they both
needed to work things out before she knew.
"Jason, are you involved with anyone new?"
"Yes, sadly, I am currently seeing, if that is how you
would like to say it, Elizabeth…. but I don't love her." He looked deep
into her eyes praying she would ask who he did love.
She wanted to break his stare; he was looking, searching her
eyes. She wanted to ask who he loved
but would she get an answer that would break her heart? She was willing to risk
it, "Who- who do you…love?" she held her breath waiting for his
answer.
She had asked him, now was the time to tell her.
"Courtney, I love you." He watched as tears streamed down her face
after his confession.
"I love you too" she barley got her words out
before his lips fell onto hers. They
kissed for what seemed like ages but it felt so right. Suddenly she pulled back. Jason was hurt by her sudden actions.
"Jason, what time is it?" her eyes were filled
with anticipation and fear; she had promised Brian she would meet him at 3 am
in front of the fountain at main campus.
She knew what he wanted and she knew what the answer would have to be
but all the same she owed him a proper explanation.
"Ohh my god, it is 1:50, Courtney we aren't going to
get back in time."
"Jason we have to!" they both flung themselves
from the couch and out into the night, it had started to rain while they were
inside but they didn't care. Jason sped
on through the city trying to get back to the school before two. He was so busy worrying about getting back
in time that he didn't see the car on the wrong side of the road, the last
thing he remembered was the bright lights and Courtney's scream.
Ch. 19
Jason woke up in a hospital room, he had no idea how he had
gotten there all he remembered was the scream. The doctor came in and told him
that he had suffered little damage. His
arm was broken and he had been unconscious for the past 3 days.
"Courtney, what about Courtney?" he was so
worried.
"Well there was a slight problem with Courtney, her
'boyfriend' showed up and claimed that her name was Holly. We had to find a birth certificate and
everything and Brian was not very happy when he found out who she really
was. He went in and started to yell at
her and when she tried to yell back she had trouble breathing. She also suffered a head injury, she has a
large gash on the side of her head but we think she is going to be
alright."
"I need to go see her now, what room is she in?"
he began to get up but the doctor stopped him.
"Mr. Quatermaine, you just woke up, you can't go
running around the hospital-"
"TAKE ME TO HER!"
The doctor listened this time and brought a wheel chair into the room a
few moments later. Jason sat down in it
calmly and then the doctor pushed him down the hall muttering under his
breath. They pulled up to the room and
Jason opened the door. Courtney was
sitting there looking around and when her eyes fell on him……..
"Jason…" she breathed his name out like she had
been holding her breath for years.
'Courtney," he turned to the doctor, "may we have
a moment?"
"Fine!" the doctor left the room and closed to
door loudly behind him.
"Courtney I am so sorry! I shouldn't have been in a rush like that I should have watched
what I was doing-"
"No, Jason please don't do this to yourself. You were trying to get us back in time so
that we wouldn't get in trouble. I am
not angry with you" just then Brian entered the room.
"Well, well, well look what we have here. Courtney please tell this man that you do
not want to be with him and that you are in love with me because I know you
are!"
"Brian, I told you earlier…" she didn't want to
cause a scene in front of Jason so she said it softly but Brian didn't want to
talk about it calmly.
"NO! What you
told me earlier was the aftermath of the accident that HE caused," he
pointed a finger at Jason, "and now I want you to tell him the truth about
how you feel about me!" he crossed his arms and tapped his foot waiting
like a seven year old boy while his mom gets her hair cut. Courtney preparedt o answer but Jason got
the words out of his mouth first.
"No, you listen to me!
Courtney and I are together. We
have been since she moved to Port Charles!
You or anyone else can try and stop us but it won't happen! You caused most of the problems Courtney is
having right now when you threw and little tantrum in here because she didn't
want to be with you anymore! Get out of
her room!"
"Who’s one to talk you put her in this hospital bed not
me! She doesn't love you Jason, she
loves me, even if she hasn't said so yet I know it is because she wants to tell
me at the perfect time!" that was it, Courtney couldn't handle it anymore
she sat bolt up right and started out slowly.
"I, do, not love you Brian! I don't love you! You
were my friend when I lived in California and yes there were some feelings on
both sides but when I moved to Port Charles it all changed when I met
Jason! There is nothing you can do
about that so PLEASE leave me alone!"
She breathed in deeply and then lay back down on the bed.
"Courtney, please don't do this, I love you babe…"
"Don’t call her babe……. Just leave!" Jason answered so that Courtney could catch
her breath.
"Fine, I'll leave but this is not the end, I will have
Courtney for myself!" With that he
walked out the door and slammed it behind him.
Jason let his head fall and hang low and Courtney let the tears stream
down her face.
"Ohh Jason what have I done?" she turned from him
and cried silently. Jason stood from
his wheel chair and gained balance; he walked over to her and sat on the side
of her bed.
"Nothing, nothing except tell someone the truth."
He wrapped his arms around her and held her while she allowed her self to cry
more freely. About fifteen minutes
later she stopped and turned towards him.
"How did I get so lucky to find someone like you?"
she looked into his eyes, his blue eyes that made everything alright, that made
everyone else disappear and for just a moment made her forget everything that
ever happened to her.
"Funny, I was going to ask you the same question…"
he leaned down and kissed her lightly on the forehead.
"I love you Jason"
"I love you too"
then they were silent, Jason held Courtney and they listened to each
other's hearts beat and soon they fell asleep.
