Chapter 2

Courtney stood face to face with him. After looking into his eyes for only a second she looked down at the floor. She felt ashamed and embarrassed. She didn’t want him to see her like this. But he didn’t care. The next thing she knew she was being supported by his arms around her.

“Are you ok?” he asked as he put a finger underneath her chin to lift her head so he could look into her blue eyes.

“I’m ok,” she said, “now that you’re here,” she added to herself.

“No you’re not. What happened? Did Aj do this to you? Where is the bastard?” he asked with anger filling his voice. He looked at her and was ready to kill him.

“Yeah it was Aj,” she replied quietly. Soon more tears began to fall from her face.

He stepped closer to her. He wrapped his arms around her and held her while she cried. The longer he saw her like this the angrier he became.

“I promise I will never let him hurt you again,” he said.

Courtney smiled on the inside. She felt safe in his strong arms. When he held her she felt as if all the pain AJ caused disappeared. She felt protected, safe, strong, and even loved. Jason had promised that he would never let Aj hurt her again. She knew that when Jason made a promise he kept it, no matter what. That was all she needed to know to feel good again.

She reluctantly pulled away. She still stood close to him, but she felt so far away when he wasn’t holding her. She wiped away her tears and stood in silence.

“Where are you going to stay?” Jason asked

“I don’t know and don’t care as long as it’s anywhere but here.”

“You want to go to Sonny’s?”

She sighed disappointed. She was hoping that he would ask if she wanted to stay with him.

“Not really. I …I just don’t want Sonny to know what has happened. At least not yet. I just need some time. I don’t want to hear him say I told you so and besides I know what would happen if he did know and I don’t really want to feel responsible for a man’s death if you know what I mean.”

“yeah I know what you mean.” Jason could only imagine the things Sonny would have done to AJ.

“If you don’t want to stay with Sonny you can stay with me…if you want,” Jason offered.

“Yeah, if you don’t mind?” she said trying to hide the excitement in her voice, but she wasn’t sure if she could. She loved being around Jason. She just felt so…alive when he was near her. She wished that he felt the same way, but then again he was married. The thought of Jason and Brenda married made her feel sad and hurt.

“In don’t mind at all. It’ll be nice not to be alone all the time.”

“What about Brenda?”

Jason laughed. He had forgotten that Courtney didn’t know the real truth behind their marriage.

“What’s so funny?”

“Nothing. I guess I just have some explaining to do. I’ll tell you on the way to the penthouse,” he said as he grabbed her bags and held opened the door for her.

Courtney was walking through the door when she paused and turned around. She looked around the apartment one last time and said her final goodbyes to her personal hell. She found some solace in knowing that it was over, but she wondered if it was really over. What would AJ do once he found out she was living with Jason? She didn’t want to think about it right now, so she walked out of the apartment as fast as she could.

“So you and Brenda aren’t in love. She’s in love with Jax, not Sonny right?” Courtney asked out of concern as they stepped into the elevator. Jason had told her everything from the Sonny/Brenda/Jax triangle to their so-called marriage. Courtney’s concern was that Brenda wanted Sonny and Courtney really liked Carly. She didn’t want some other woman trying to break up Sonny and Carly’s marriage.

“Yeah, she loves Jax,” he replied, but his tone wasn’t exactly convincing, but Courtney decided against saying anything.

“So, about AJ-”

“I’ll call Alexis tomorrow and ask her to recommend a good divorce attorney.”

“Thanks Jason. I really appreciate it, but I can’t afford a really good attorney.”

“Don’t worry about the money. I’ll take care of everything. I promise.”

“Thanks Jason, I really-” she was caught off guard as she suddenly felt herself being thrown into Jason. The elevator had stopped suddenly and Courtney found herself being supported by Jason’s arms.

She slowly started to pull away when her eyes caught his. They looked at each other for what seem liked an eternity.

Jason couldn’t help himself anymore. He found himself thinking back to the night when she kissed him. Jason wondered what it would be like to really kiss her. He moved closer to her. Their faces were inches apart.

Courtney felt so many emotions running inside of her. Both them felt so incredible that they didn’t even notice that the elevator had started moving. She had been waiting for this for a long time. They were so close that she could practically feel his heart beating. Their lips were about to come crashing together but they heard a voice.

“Well, well, well. What do we have here?” a voice said. Jason and Courtney quickly pulled apart from each, but the didn’t have to look to know who it was.
