Summary- Courtney and Jason meet in different circumstances.
Will they fall in love; or will each of their problems keep that from
happening.
Prologue
Courtney was in a rush. She used her lunch break to go get
groceries and other essentials that she desperately needed. She had to be back
at work in twenty minutes, and at the rate she was going, she was going to be
late. She tried to juggle the two bags of groceries and look for her keys to
unlock her apartment building at the same time. She dropped one of the brown
paper bags. “Damnit!” she murmured, she bent down and started to pick
everything up.
Jason walked along the streets of east port Charles, he
hated going this far into the city, but he got a tip that this was where the
new enemy was operating. He stopped when he saw a young blonde drop her bag of
groceries.
He bent down, “do you need any help?”
Courtney looked up, startled by the man, “no, I think I got
it, I live right here, thanks anyway.
“Are you sure, I don’t mind carrying something up…”fear
struck her face, and he realized that maybe he had gone too far. Even if he was
just offering to help her out.
He stood up and backed off, “never mind, I’m sure you can
handle it.”
Courtney sighed and finished sticking everything back in the
bag. Just praying to god that Dan didn’t see her talking to another guy.
Dan took another swig of his beer, he saw the whole seen in
front of him, as Courtney stood there talking to a guy, and it wasn’t just any
guy, it was Jason Morgan.
Courtney opened the door to 5C, but before she got very far,
she heard his voice. “Why were you talking to him?”
“Why were you talking to him?”
Courtney cringed when she heard him speak, she could smell
it, he was drunk, again. She shut the door, and sat the bags of groceries on
the coffee table. “I dropped the bag, and he offered to help me carry them up,
and I said no.”
Dan threw the empty beer bottle against the wall, which
caused Courtney to jump. “Bullshit!” he took a step closer to her. “If that
were true, you wouldn’t have been talking to him that long!”
Courtney turned to walk back out the door; which was a
mistake and she knew it. Dan grabbed a hold of her arm, and twisted it up and
around. He shoved her against the door, so she had no choice but to stare him
straight in the eye.
“Did you forget what happens when you walk away from me?” He
twisted her arm harder, and she had to bite her lip to keep from screaming. “I
guess I’ll have to show you.”
Jason lowered his head and walked into the dimly lit
basement. The smell of smoke and alcohol wavered across the dingy room. He
headed to the far corner of the room, which led to another room. He walked into
the room to see T sitting at the desk with his feet propped up on it, smoking a
cigarette.
T was a short man; about five feet tall, with dark hair
pulled back into a ponytail that went halfway down his back. He wore a black
silky suit that looked like an Armani knock off, along with cheap plastic
sunglasses that he probably bought from the seven eleven down the street.
Jason had know him for about five years, they had worked
together a couple of times, usually situations like this; low profile enemies,
that weren’t in the usual organized crime business. But instead someone who had
no idea what they were doing, and thought it was fun to piss off people.
Jason stood across from T, and decided to keep it short,
“what do you know?”
“Not much.” He smashed his cigarette into the ashtray and
stood up. “He’s new in town, but not new to the business.”
“Well that doesn’t really help me much.”
“Relax, relax, that’s not all I know.” T walked over to the
small rusted up filing cabinet and pulled out a small pack of papers.
“This is it?” Jason flipped threw the information and looked
back down at T.
“Hey, you’re lucky I got a picture of him. Just give me
another week, and I’ll check with my sources and pull out more info on the
dude.”
Josh followed everyone else out the front door, he loved his
new school, and he was so excited to tell his mom about his day. He walked down
the steps and looked around for his mom, but couldn’t find her.
“Hey Josh, who are you looking for?”
“My mom, she said she was going to pick me up today, but I
don’t see her.”
Carly scanned her eyes over the kids, before spotting
Michael. “Michael!” she yelled.
Michael turned around, and motioned for his mom to come over
to him. “Mom, this is Josh. Can we stay here with him until his mom picks him
up?”
Carly sighed; she really had several other things that she
had to do. But when she looked down at the little boy with pure blond hair, who
was a little shorter than Michael, she couldn’t say no. “sure.”
Josh smiled up at Michael’s mom, “thank you. My mommy will
be here soon.”
Ten minutes had gone by, and still nobody had shown up for
Josh. He didn’t talk much, but Carly learned a little about him; he was six, he
used to live in Boston, which is why he is a huge fan of the Boston Red Sox,
and before that he lived in Atlantic City.
Courtney ran towards the P.C. elementary, school had let out
fifteen minutes ago, and she was late to pick up Josh, which had never
happened. Dan had only smacked her around a few times, and didn’t get too far
because his cell phone went off.
She never made it back to work, so she was most definitely
sure she was fired, which meant she had to start looking for a job as soon as possible.
She stopped and sighed when she saw him sitting on the steps
with another kid. “Josh!”
All three looked up at the voice and Josh ran over. “Mommy!”
Courtney picked Josh up “I’m so sorry I’m late, it will
never ever happen again.” She kissed the top of his head and sat him back down.
“Josh, I’m so sorry. Are you ok?”
“I’m ok mommy, Michael and his mom stayed with me.”
Courtney put Josh back down, and turned toward the brunette.
“I can’t thank you enough for staying with Josh.”
Carly smiled, “it was my pleasure. Besides I got to meet
Michael’s new friend.” She stuck out her hand. “I’m Carly Corinthos.”
Chapter One
Courtney stood in the tiny bathroom, in front of the mirror,
putting on make-up. The bruises could really be seen now, and she had to go out
looking for a job today, and it really wouldn’t help if she walked in with
bruises all over her face.
She walked out of the bathroom and saw Josh sitting on the
couch watching TV, all dressed and ready. “Did you eat breakfast already?”
Josh nodded, “can I go over to Michael’s today? He invited
me yesterday.”
“Well, I would have to call and ask Michael’s mom, and I
don’t have their phone number.”
“I do!” Josh grabbed his book bag; he took the piece of
paper out and handed it to his mom. “Here.”
Courtney looked at her son; he had never once been
interested in going to someone else’s house. “Ok, I’ll give her a call.”
“Thank you, mommy!”
Courtney picked up the phone and dialed the seven-digit
number.
Michael sat at the dining room table, with his chin rested
on his hands. “Mom, can you call Josh’s mom and ask if he can come over?”
Carly threw the empty Krispy Kreme donut box into the
garbage. Sonny was out of town, which meant she was left to herself to figure
out what her, Michael and Morgan were to have for meals.
“Michael…” the phone rang, cutting off her sentence. She
rolled her eyes and picked up the phone. “Hello…oh, yeah, Michael was just
asking me about it…yeah, that’s fine, why don’t you just drop him off at my
place and he can stay for the day….”
Courtney hung up the phone, and took the piece of paper with
the directions written on them. She looked down at her son who was eagerly
looking up at her with big blue eyes that mirrored her own. “She said yes.”
“Yes!” Josh jumped off the couch and ran into his bedroom to
get his jacket.
Hours later, Josh sat next to Michael on his leather couch,
playing his fifth round of Mario Kart on Game Cube, he had lost at every single
round and was determined to win one before he went home.
Carly walked back out into the living room with Josh’s
brother, Chase, in her arms, and Morgan following closely behind. She hadn’t
planned on babysitting a seven month old, but even though she had known
Courtney for only a day; she couldn’t turn her down.
“Boys, did you see where I put Chase’s pacifier?” Chase was
starting to get mad, and she couldn’t find his pacifier.
“No.” they said it in unison, not bothering to remove their
eyes from the television screen.
Jason walked into penthouse four, Max told him that Michael
was having a friend over and he didn’t want to interrupt, but he had to get
some papers out of Sonny’s desk.
Carly looked up when she saw Jason walk in, “thank God!
Here, you hold him, while I find his pacifier.”
“Carly…”
“Please, just until I find his pacifier.” Before Jason got a
chance to say anything, Carly walked out of the room.
Jason looked down at the crying baby in his arms; there was
something familiar about the sad blue eyes that were looking up at him. “Hey
there little guy.” He hugged Chase closer to his chest and gently rubbed his
back, trying to calm him down. Chase moved his head around until he found a
comfortable spot; he closed his eyes and slowly drifted off to sleep.
“I found…” Carly stopped in her tracks, “how…how did you get
him to go to sleep?” Jason shrugged his shoulders, and continued to rub the
little boy’s back. Carly sat down on the leather chair, and picked up the new
issue of Vogue, “well why don’t you just look after him until his mom picks him
up.”
“Carly I have work to do.”
“Jason, I’m sure it can wait.”
“And reading a magazine can’t?”
“Actually, no. It’s very important for me to keep up with
the latest trends and everything, after all I do have to run a club.”
Jason rolled his eyes; he knew that had absolutely nothing
to do with running a club. But he also knew you had to pick your battles, and
this wasn’t one worth fighting.
