Summary:Jason and Courtney are married, but what has destroyed their happiness?
Chapter1
Jason awoke suddenly. He slowly sat up in his bed, and gazed down at his sleeping wife. They had been through so much in the past three years that they had been married, but she was always so strong. It amazed him. She was always doing that, constantly amazing him, and he seemed to love her even more every day. He smiled as he brushed away a lock of her beautiful blonde hair away from her face. She stirred slightly and looked up at him.
“Morning,” Courtney smiled as she stretched her arms.
“I didn’t mean to wake you.” Jason said not sorry that he had, anytime that he spent with her always seemed to be the best time he ever had.
“I was half awake already” Courtney sighed as she forced herself to sit up.
“How are you feeling?”
Courtney looked at Jason suspiciously, “Fine, Why do you ask?”
“I just worry about you after…” Jason cut off before he could finish his sentence. He grasped onto Courtney’s hand and squeezed it in his own. He saw the pain in her eyes; it was a mirror image of his pain. “I love you, Courtney. You know that right? No matter what happens, I will always love you.”
“I know,” Courtney smiled at Jason as she held back her tears. She squeezed his hand back, “I know.” She repeated in a whisper. Jason placed his free hand on Courtney’s cheek. He leaned in and pulled her into a kiss needing to be near her, needing to be with her, no matter what.
Chapter2
Courtney sighed as she forced herself to get out of bed. Somehow, even that had become a struggle for her. Everyday activities had started to take more out of her. She pulled on a pair of black jeans and a white tank top. She went to the bathroom and splashed some cold water on her face. She leaned against the counter staring at her reflection. The person that stared back at her was almost a stranger. Her hair had thinned, her completion had paled considerably, and there were dark circles underlining her eyes. It was her eyes that scared her, though. There seemed to be a darkness that covered the once crystal blue color that had once been there. She bit her lip to hold back the tears that threatened to fall. She was ashamed, she was afraid to admit it to Jason, even to herself, but she was. She was ashamed of what she had become, and she was ashamed about what had happened. She tried to shake off her fears as she pulled her hair into a ponytail. She slowly walked back into the bedroom, wiping away her tears, to find Jason sitting on the bed, waiting for her. He looked up as she entered and immediately noticed the single tear that was lying on her cheek, “Courtney, what is it?” Jason stood up, worried.
“Jason, do you ever think about what might have been? What might have happened if…” Courtney looked away from him, not wanting to face him.
“Courtney, I…” Jason began, “Yes.” He whispered as he gazed at Courtney as another tear fell. He wiped it away, and then lifted her chin. “I think about it, but then I think about you, and what we have, and I know that is all that I need. All I need is you in my life, and as long as I have that, I will be happy.” Courtney smiled slightly, letting some of her pain slip away with Jason’s words, but the pain would never go away, and she knew that.
Jason pulled Courtney close to him and let her cry into his shirt. It was hard for him not to cry also, but he tried to be strong for Courtney.
She hadn’t eaten more then a sandwich in months, and she only slept a few hours a night. He had tried to get her to eat, but he knew that he couldn’t push her to hard, or she might never come back to her normal self. He stood there rocking his wife back and forth thinking about how much he missed the Courtney she used to be, but loving her nonetheless. That was one thing that he could always count on, his love for her. Even when everything in his life seemed to fall apart, the love he felt for her is what got him through the day. No matter what happened, his love for her would be a strong as anything. That was the one thing that he had always known to be true. It was the one thing that he counted on; he just hoped that their love would somehow save Courtney, too.
