Chapter 9
~General Hospital~
"The home-test was right, Courtney you are pregnant" replied
Dr. Meadows as she had finished up some blood tests.
"You're about a month along."
Courtney was beyond speechless. Just hearing confirmation from the
doctor, had sent her emotions through the roof. Not that she wasn't
ecstactically overjoyed, but she couldn't help but wonder how?
"Dr. Meadows, uh I thought that when I had my miscarriage it had
ruined my chances of ever having a child of my own," said Courtney.
"No, dear I think you may have misunderstood" answered Dr.
Meadows. "I said your chances of conceiving were minimal, not
impossible."
"What are the odds" thought Courtney beaming inside.
"Well I suggest that you take care of the baby by trying to stay
stress-free," said Dr. Meadows. "Also get the baby's father to help
you out with things, you don't want to do this alone."
Courtney's happy mood shifted slightly. "Baby's father......"
was all she could hear.
She nodded with a smile as she got up. "Well thank you for
everything Dr. Meadows and I'll see you for the next appointment. Oh, and um,
I-uh was wondering if we could just keep the happy news to ourselves right now.
I just want to clear things up for the time being" said Courtney uneasily.
Dr. Meadows nodded with an understanding smile, knowing that patient
privacy was important.
Courtney left the office and headed for the elevator. Little did she
notice that Jax was around the corner and had just saw her come out of Dr.
Meadows' office.
A devilish smile came across Jax's face as he put two-and-two together.
A plan started to form in the back of his head. All he needed now was
confirmation.
~The Loft~
For the baby's sake, Courtney tried to keep her head from spinning and
getting herself worked up. But seriously, how could she not?
"The baby's father...." Dr. Meadows words were still ringing
in her ears.
"Oh my god" thought Courtney desperately. "What am I
going to do?!?"
She began thinking back a month ago, and considered her options. She
had slept with Jax one night and then with Jason the next. Courtney couldn't
help but feeling like a tramp, even though she wasn't. But she couldn't think
like that. It wasn't good for the baby.
So instead drowned herself with happy thoughts about her, Jason and the
baby. She hoped with all her heart that it wasn't Jaxs'. But even if it was,
Jason and her would to everything to get full custody. That is, if Jason still
wanted to be with her. She decided that she had to tell him as soon as he got
home, knowing all too well what happened the last time she was pregnant.
Courtney decided to stay in the loft and wait for Jason to get home.
She didn't want to take the chance of running into anyone, knowing the look on
her face said something was up. Taking some of the pregnancy pamphlets she got
from Dr. Meadows, she read until she fell asleep.
~The Docks~
Jason comes down the steps as Sonny is waiting for him to arrive.
"Hey man," said Sonny as he turned around.
"You wanted to see me?" asked Jason.
"Yeah," said Sonny.” You know Sam called?"
"Uh- yeah. She does that like everyday, you know that"
replied Jason.
"And- uh did you know she's planning to stay in Calgary, but she's
coming back to Port Charles just to clear things and get Lila?" answered
Sonny, his voice shaking.
Jason's face fell. "Yes I knew that, but I thought that she should
tell you herself since you are Lila's father."
"DAMMIT JASON" yelled Sonny. "She's taking my daughter
away from me!"
"Sonny calm down!" said Jason. "No one can ever take
Lila from you. But she needs Sam. She's all Sam's got. It's not like you can't
visit them anyway, you can fly up there anytime you want to. Plus you've got
Michael, Morgan and Carly and that's something Sam knows she'll never be a part
of. The point is, if this is Sam's chance to move on and be happy, then LET
her!
Sonny didn't want to hear anymore of what Jason was saying. He needed
his daughter, to watch her grow up, be there for her...
"That's ENOUGH!" yelled Sonny. "You know, you know what?
There's no point in discussing this without Sam here anyway."
Sonny turned to leave " By the way the whole Faith situation thing
still has to be cleared. I'll see you tomorrow."
Jason sighed and stared out on the water, thinking for just a few
minutes. As always his thoughts drifted back to Courtney as he felt that
familiar feeling glow inside him. He smiled as turned to leave, just wanting to
get home to her.
~The Loft~
It was already dark by the time Jason came home. He opened the door to
see a single lamp on beside the couch, the rest of the loft dark. Her beauty
was unmistakable as he saw her sleep and how peaceful and happy she was. The
soft light from the lamp toned her features, making him want her even more.
Jason dropped the Italian dinner and the rented movie on the counter as
he walked towards the couch.
He lay down on the couch behind her, being careful not to wake her up
as he wrapped his arms around her waist and softly kissed her neck.
Surprisingly she still hadn't woken up. He took in the sweet scent of her hair
and closed his eyes; just being able to hold her was enough for him.
Jason opened his eyes and suddenly saw all the pregnancy pamphlets
sprawled across the coffee table. His heart skipped a beat, and as if Courtney
could feel it she smiled and turned around in his arms. She leaned to give him
a kiss, but saw the surprised/excited look on his face.
Jason looked at Courtney to ask her, but the look in her eyes said it
all. He let out the biggest grin; she had ever seen and kissed her long and
passionately.
"This is amazing!" cried Jason as he sat up bringing Courtney
in his lap, still holding her. "I'm so happy for us."
"Jason, there's something you have to know," began Courtney,
wanting to be honest with him. "I'm still not sure who the biological
father is, but no matter what I want you to be the father in our baby's life.
That is, if you'd still want to."
"Of course I will. You know I wouldn't have it any other
way," said Jason as he placed another kiss on Courtney's lips. "This
baby is mine" thought Jason to himself. "I can feel it."
Courtney couldn't help but worry. "What if the baby is Jaxs' and
he'll take the whole thing to court before...."
"Shhhhhh" said Jason as he placed a finger to her lips.
"That's not important now so don't worry about it. All I know is we're
together, I love you and this baby, and I couldn't care less if the father is
Jax because we're a family now."
Courtney was so touched by his words that it took everything in her to
keep from crying. He was being so sweet and understanding that she didn't want
to embarrass herself by looking like a total idiot.
Jason noticed her tension so he decided to change the subject.
"Hey I got us dinner if you're still hungry, and afterwards we could watch
that movie if you're interested," he said as he got up to put the food on
dinner plates.
Courtney nodded and followed him into the kitchen. She took the movie
out of the bag to see what it was, and cast a look from the movie to Jason and
back again.
"My, My" Courtney teased, waving the Love Actually dvd
around. "I so didn't know you were into chick flicks," she laughed.
"We have more in common, than I thought."
"Oh no, baby" Jason smiled as he gave her a glass of
champagne and held out her chair. "I picked it for you. Cause you know how
you get so excited, and so into those kind of movies."
"What, So now you're making fun of the movies I like to
watch?" Courtney asked as she slid her foot up Jason's leg and in between
his thighs, underneath the table.
Jason's face was now crimson red as he tried to maintain himself. Not
being able to speak, he shook his head slightly.
Courtney burst out laughing as she removed her foot. Jason couldn't
help but laughing along with her. He loved seeing Courtney so happy, even if he
had to make a fool of himself in the process.
They ate dinner and talked about everything about the baby. Whether it
was going to be a boy or girl, what they should name it, who it would look like
etc. To make Courtney feel better they decided to go to the Hospital the next
morning and do a paternity test.
It was only 10 minutes into the movie and Jason once again had Courtney
in his arms, lying down on the couch. Her hand intertwined with his as he
wrapped his arm around her. Courtney said something and when Jason didn't
answer she turned her head.
Sure enough he was asleep, his chest rising and falling against her
back. She kissed him softly on the lips "I love you Jason Morgan" she
whispered. Courtney now turned herself
facing him, ready to join him in sleep. "This is much better than the
movie," she smiled as she closed her eyes.
