Note: I didn’t mention this before. But Carly and Sonny are still together and obviously so are Jason and Courtney. Also, Mykayla is three weeks old.

Chapter 3

After leaving Carly’s, Courtney went back to her penthouse just to think and wait. She wondered how she could have ever wanted to have a break from the smiling face that, right now, she would give anything to see. As she sat there thinking a single tear rolled down her cheek.

Her thoughts were interrupted by a sharp knock on the door. Courtney rolled her eyes wondering who it could be. Knowing that if it was anyone she really wanted to see, namely her family, they would just barge in. The person knocked again and Courtney grudgingly made her way to the door and opened it.

Standing at the door was A.D.A. Ric Lansing. Courtney felt her anger rise just at the sight of him. “What do you want?” She spat out anger gleaming in her eyes.

“I was wondering if Jason was here?” Ric asked in his sick, over polite manner.

Courtney shook her head with disgust. “No, Ric. He is not here at the moment, what can I do for you?” She asked detested.

“Well I just thought I’d arrange a little business meeting with him. But since he’s not home would you just tell him I dropped by.” Ric stated in a business like manner.

“What kind of meeting would you need to have with Jason?” Courtney asked, now curious as to why the A.D.A would even want to speak with her husband, the man he hated so much.

“Let’s just say it would be of his greatest interest to contact me right away. Thank-You Courtney.” Ric smiled sickly and walked away.

Courtney shut the door her mind reeling. Why would Ric all of sudden show up at her door? Unless, he had something to hold over his head. Like Mykayla. The thought all of sudden dawned on her!

She raced to the phone and furiously dialed Jason’s cell.

“Hello?” he answered.

“Jason, I just talked to Ric. I think he knows something about Mykayla.” She declared.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa slow down. What gives you this idea.” He asked clearly confused.

Courtney took a breath and explained all that had just happened. When she finished Jason simply said okay and hung up the phone. Obviously, he thought that Ric was up to something too.

She slowly hung up the phone and sank onto the couch. She was exhausted from all the day’s events. When she sat down she felt something hard dig into her. She reached under and pulled out one of Mykayla’s dolls. A single tear fell down her cheek as she thought about all the amusing times she’d had with her daughter. It was hard to believe that in just three weeks she had grown to love this human being more than anything else in the entire world. Mykayla was apart of her and being separated, never knowing when she’d have her back, was the hardest thing she’d ever gone through.

At Peer 52

A lone figure stood in the mist, just watching and waiting for his adversary to arrive. In just a matter of a few hours his whole life had collapsed and someone had to pay for it. He heard footsteps and then out of the haze stepped one of his worst enemies. He wore a long coat and walked with his held high.

“Lansing, what do you want?” Jason demanded his eyes that cold, crystal blue.

“I simply want your co-operation.” Ric said firmly.

“Why would I ever help you?” Jason asked in distaste. “You know I never do deals with cops.”

Ric grinned slyly. “Well you see I think that rule is about to change. You see I have some information that may be very useful to you.”

“What is it about?” Jason queried with caution.

“Well I happen to know who took your little bundle of joy.” Ric affirmed. “But, before I tell you I want something in return.”

Jason looked at him cautiously, studying his face to see if this sick moron was actually telling the truth. “What do I have to do for you?” Jason inquired.

“Ah, I was wondering when you would get to that.” Ric answered slyly. “I want you. To admit that you are guilty of attempted murder on Capelli.”

“What, kind of sick scheme is that?” Jason demanded.

Ric just answered him with that wicked smile. “You see Jason, my whole career I’ve been trying to commit you for something and now I have leverage. So what do you say? Are you going swallow your pride and spend the rest of your life knowing your daughter’s safe? Or are you going to be as stubborn as you usually are and never see Mykayla again?” Ric asked simply.

“That is one twisted plot.” Jason said.

“Yeah, well that’s the way life works.” Ric stated, still in obvious glee.

“Whatever,” Jason muttered, “I’ll get back to you. But just to let you know, you’ll never get away with this.” Jason brushed past the ADA and strode out into the darkness.

At Penthouse 4

“Carly,” Sonny called as he came through the door of his penthouse.

Carly came thundering down the stairs and ran to Sonny and flung her arms around her neck.

“Hey, hey. What’s wrong?” Sonny asked.

“Oh, it’s terrible.” Carly began to sob. “I was babysitting Mykayla for Jason and Courtney and while I was upstairs someone came and took her. She’s gone Sonny.”

“What? Is Jason looking for her?” Sonny pulled away and looked at Carly beginning to get upset.

“Well I think so. He left about half an hour ago, saying he would find out what happened.” Carly answered.

“And where’s Courtney, why isn’t she here with you.” Sonny questioned.

“She went back to their place, she said she wanted some time alone.” Carly replied. “But, Sonny are you going to do something?”

“Yeah,” Sonny answered reassuringly.

Just then Jason came through the door. “Sonny, did Carly tell you?”

“Yeah, so what are we gonna do?”

Jason looked at Carly and then back at Sonny. “Maybe we should talk about his alone for a minute Sonny.” Jason said.

Sonny nodded and motioned for Jason to follow him into the kitchen.

“So what’s happening?” Sonny asked.

“Well, Ric Lansing contacted me and said that he knew where Mykayla was.” Jason paused, “He’ll tell me where but first I have to admit that I tried to kill Capelli.”

“I see. Well we don’t need Ric we can find Mykayla on our own.” Sonny stated.

Jason shook his head. “Sonny I don’t know.  The longer Mykayla is gone the more chance there is she can be in danger. I would just like to know that she’s safe.”

“Are you thinking of going along with Ric?” Sonny asked in disbelief. “Jason you know he’s going to double cross you. This is just some scheme he cooked up and he probably has no intention of telling you where she is.” Sonny could tell that Jason was really worried about his daughter and was upset.

“Sonny, I’ve never been this scared in my life.” Jason admitted. “I feel like if I even do one thing wrong, Mykayla will be gone forever.

Sonny nodded in understanding. “You know what Jason. Go talk to Courtney about it. The decision is for you two decide. But before you go I just want you to know that we will get your daughter back. No matter what.”

“Okay,” Jason said, “I’ll go talk to Courtney.”  Jason strode out of the kitchen, leaving Sonny to think about the situation.

Chapter 4

Courtney heard the door opening and clambered down the stairs her whole heart hoping that Jason would be carrying their daughter in his arms. When she reached the bottom of the stairs she realized he was alone and her heart sunk.

Jason came over to her and encircled her with his arms. He felt her whole body drain into his arms and he felt all the pain that she was feeling. They just stood there in the living room for a while, each needing each other’s comfort.

Courtney eventually pulled away and looked into Jason’s eyes. “Did you find anything?” She asked, in despair.

Jason took her hand and led her to the couch. “When I talked to Ric, he informed me that he knew where Mykayla was.”

“Well, did he tell you?” Courtney asked.

“That’s the catch.” Jason said, “He wants me to admit that I tried to kill Capelli. Which would put me in jail.”

“But, you weren’t even a prime suspect in that case.” Courtney remarked.

“I know.” Jason said. “Now we have to decide what to do. If I take the charge then Mykayla could be home by tomorrow morning.”

“No, way.” Courtney declared, “If you admit to it then you’ll be put away for life. There is no way that I will let you do that.  If you are put in jail then Mykayla will grow up without her father. I am not letting that happen. We’ll find another way.”

Jason looked at his wife and saw the fear in her eyes. He knew that he couldn’t leave his family, but if he didn’t do this he may not have a family.

“Courtney, I know this is hard on you.  This life that we lead it really is no place for a family and there are probably going to be lots of times when I let our daughter down. But right now I can do something for her. This may be one of the only things I do right in my life.” Jason reasoned.

Courtney felt the tears well up in her eyes. “Jason, don’t say those things. You are a great father. And we will get Mykayla back. But not this way. Please. I don’t want to have to raise her alone. I need you, we need you.” Courtney pleaded.

Jason wrapped his arm around his distraught wife. “I won’t go along with Ric yet. But if it looks like we’re getting no where then I’m going to have to have to do it.”

Courtney nodded and wiped the tears from her cheeks.

Hey, how do you think it’s coming so far? Don’t worry I’ll let you know more on Ric’s plan soon.
