Courtney swung her legs over the edge of their bed, finding her slippers with her feet. As she slipped into her robe, she shyly looked over at
the bathroom door. He had never before raised his voice at her. She
rubbed her face with her hands and sighed.
Courtney: What’s wrong Jason?
She whispered to the door.
Stimulated with a fiery determination, Courtney spun on her heal and
marched out of their bedroom. She didn’t think it was fair that he does all
the work while Sonny sits around and gives orders! How dare Sonny! Having
him
up at all hours of the night. Courtney barged into the penthouse
before
Johnny could utter a word of her arrival.
Courtney: Who do you think you are?!?
She screamed furiously at Sonny.
Sonny: What? What’s the matter?
Courtney: Your so-so typical! For G-d sakes, Sonny-Does-does it even
matter
to you that Jason and I are getting married in a couple of days. G-d!
Sonny: Ok-ok- Calm down. All right. What are you talking about?
Courtney: Don’t act innocent! You’ve been working Jason like as horse,
now
more than ever! Is this some last minute attempt to put the pressure
on?!?
Huh? Stop him from marrying me??! I mean-I-I thought you approved? Why
are
you doing this?
Sonny reached out, grabbed his little sister’s hand, and slowly walked
her
over to the couch. As they sat, he gently held onto her hand.
Sonny: I love you. You know that right? I-I know I don’t let tell you
that
often, but that’s-that’s how I feel. You’re my family. All I want is
for
you to be happy. And Jason makes you happy.
All the anger and fury she marched in with subsided with his words. He
wasn’t against her marrying Jason. He’d do anything to make her happy.
As
Courtney sauntered back over to their apartment she couldn’t help but
think
about what Sonny told her. Sonny said he had lightened Jason’s
workload
over the past couple of weeks. Something else was keeping him distant.
Courtney: Jason?
She called out when she walked through the door.
Courtney: Jason?
Silence. He was gone again.
As she turned to drag herself up the stairs, something on the desk
caught
her eye. Thunder crackled outside as she slowly approached the note.
It
read: 15 Walnut Drive. 6 pm. (545)-352-2644. Courtney hesitantly
dialed
the number.

Jason lingered around the front door before tentatively knocking. He
couldn’t understand why he kept coming back; he was going to marry the
woman
he loved in a few days. But…it seemed as though all rational thought
seemed
to vanish when he saw her; she needed him. And he couldn’t stay away.
His knock was so soft, it was barely audible, but she heard him, she
felt
his presence and ran to the door instantly. “Hey,” she uttered shyly
smiling. She was like a dream manifested into reality as she stood in
the
doorway. Her flowing dark hair glided off her shoulders and her
brilliant
brown eyes spoke volumes of their past. She was breath taking, he
thought
to himself.
“I-I’m sorry I called you again…I know your busy, it’s just-” she
stuttered
nervously. “Don’t be sorry…I’m not. I-I’m glad I could be here for
you,
Robin,” he said pulling her into an embrace.
So many thoughts and emotions ran through his head as he held her
tightly.
He knew what he felt for Courtney was real, but Robin was his first
love.
She needed him now more than ever. She told him she had, at most, a
year
left until the end, and she vowed to make this last year as fulfilling
as it
could ever be. That meant being with Jason again, feeling him close to
her.
Their past mistakes seemed to dissipate after they saw each other;
after
they touched; after they kissed each other, for the first time in
years.

“Hi. This is Maxi. This is Georgie. And this is Mac. Were not home
right
now but leave your name and your number after the beep and we’ll give
you a
call back.”
Courtney looked at the phone, puzzled, and hung up the before the beep.
‘Why,’ she thought, ‘is Jason meeting Mac?’ Resolving to ask Jason,
when he
came home, Courtney gave the situation no more thought and turned to
the
kitchen to fix dinner.

A cloud of darkness fell over Port Charles; the storm from the night
before
seemed to intensify twofold. Weather reports advised residents to stay
indoors and off the roads. Courtney stood by the window, staring into
the
dark abyss that was the Port Charles sky, wondering if Jason was ok.
She
knew he wasn’t; she could feel it. He was in bad situation, in a place
he
didn’t want to be. She tried his cell phone and the Scorpio’s a few
times
but service was down all over Port Charles.
Courtney ran across the corridor, deciding to go to Sonny for help, but
Johnny informed her that Sonny and Carly had already left for their
weekend
trip.
“Look, Johnny, have you seen Jason since this afternoon,” Courtney
asked,
concerned.
“No, is …something wrong?” he responded.
She ran her fingers through her hair and let out a sigh, “I-I don’t
know,
but I have this feeling-I-I don’t know…Look can you bring the car
around…”
A million thoughts ran through his head as he sat there holding Robin
in his
arms. Courtney, the thought of her brought a smile to his face, she was
his
whole world. She came into his life, unexpectedly, and saved his heart
when
he didn’t know it needed to be saved. He needed to call her. He needed
to
see her, to feel her close to him. He snapped at her earlier, and it
was
eating at him thinking how much he hurt-
“Jason, what are you thinking about?” Robin asked interrupting his
thoughts.
“I-I was just thinking I need to make a phone call,” he said trying to
avoid
the topic of Courtney with Robin again.
“I’ve got a better idea,” she said smiling up at him “dance with me?”
As the limo approached the driveway, Courtney noticed that the lights
were
on at the Scorpio home. ‘He has to be here,’ she prayed.
Jason stood before Robin and held out his hand for hers. She took it
smiling
up at him. He led her to the center of the living room and took her
into his
arms and she held onto him as tight as she could.
She stood on her tiptoes, and whispered softly into his ears, “kiss
me.”
Hesitating, Jason tipped her chin upwards and slowly leaned in for a
kiss.
Not soon after she stepped out of the limo, Courtney was drenched from
head
to toe. She smiled at herself remembering the last time she was caught
in a
rainstorm; her and Jason’s first kiss, the night her world changed
forever;
the night she found her soul mate.
Robin slowly led him back to the couch, as she continued to kiss him.
“Make
love to me Jason” she managed to whisper, between kisses; she was
caught in
a trance, retreating to their past together. He wasn’t sure what to do,
how
to stop this without hurting Robin. He couldn’t be with her. His heart
belonged to Courtney.
Courtney ran to the front of the house, her hands above her head in a
feeble
attempt to shield herself from the rain. As she approached the front,
she
noticed two figures on the couch being intimate with one another.
Blinded by
the rain, Courtney moved closer to see who they were.
‘A pretty brunette,’ she thought squinting through the rain ‘with-’.
Her face fell as she made out whom the couple on the couch were.
“No-no-” she whispered, confused by the picture her eyes were
conveying.
She felt her legs about to give way, and her heart melt. It felt as
though
time stopped; the world stopped spinning, that heartrenching instant
felt
like an eternity.
He needed to stop this. He needed to tell her he couldn’t go through
with
it.
“Robin-I can’t. I love Courtney,” he managed to say.
“Jason, please. I need you,” she replied, kissing him.
“I love her, I love-” a woman’s silhouette outside the window caught
his
eye. “Courtney,” he whispered.
He pulled Robin off and ran to the door.
“C-ou-rtney! Cour-tney!” he yelled into the darkness.
“Jason, just forget about her. Please. I need you,” Robin pleaded
standing
in the doorway.
“I can’t,” he simply stated, turning his back on his past, and chasing
his
future.
