The Things You Do for Love

Prologue:  You Are Now Leaving Port Charles 

“You are now leaving Port Charles.  Hope you enjoyed Your Stay!” 

The simple, yet picturesque sign was the last thing Courtney Mathews saw as she sped away from the quaint town of Port Charles.  Further away from her job, further away from her family and friends… and further away from the man she so desperately loved. 

Concentrating only on the roar of her engine and the road in front of her, Courtney wiped another tear from her sullen face.    

“Goodbye Jason.  I love you…please don’t hate me for leaving… it is for the best,” Courtney whispered, praying silently her message would somehow reach her beloved. 

It was not Jason’s fault that Courtney was leaving.  He was truly the best thing that had ever happened to her; he was her friend, her lover and her protector.  But fate can be cruel, and when fate couples with the evil reincarnate of Faith Roscoe results can be devastating.     

“It is for the best,” she repeated, nodding through her tears, as if somehow the simple action would convince her that what she was doing was right.  

Courtney had no other choice but to disappear; it was the only way she could guarantee everyone she loved would be protected.  Courtney knew too much about Faith Roscoe and in turn, Faith Roscoe knew too much about Courtney.   

“You tell anyone that Rick Lansing is my silent partner…” The evil blond hissed, slithering her way closer to Courtney.  “And the next funeral… or should I say funerals… the residents of Port Charles attend…  will be yours.” 

Courtney knew she had no other choice than to abandon her life.  The only thing Courtney left behind was a pair of notes:  one for Carly loosely detailing her decision to leave and another for Carly to give to Jason.  Courtney made her best friend swear to look after Jason, and promised only to call every so often.           

Would Jason hate Courtney when he discovers she left?  Or would he understand why she had to leave?  The truth being that Courtney left to save everyone - to save Carly and Sonny, to save Michael and Isabelle, and to save Jason and the new life growing inside her, the innocent life that she and Jason created out of love.
