Summary: A darker side of Courtney has emerged from Sonny’s betrayal
Prologue
The barrel of the gun struck him square in the jaw, sending
him falling to the hard, cold ground, dazed. The pain in his face was
excruciating, threatening to break it. The owner of the gun, a thin blonde,
blue eyed woman, had fire in her eyes as she bent over the dark haired man and
placed the weapon underneath his chin.
“Now, I hope that taught you that you don’t control me and
you don’t control much of this territory anymore,” she said, venom dripping
from every word. The hatred for a man she’d once called her brother was palpable
and thick in the air.
The victim didn’t speak, knowing full well that lines had
been cross and nothing was the same anymore. He’d lost almost everything,
including his best friend, for what he’d done. Now, he was at the mercy of his
sister, something he’d never imagined.
Chapter One
Courtney Morgan walked into her loft, their loft, after
being at the warehouse with Sonny Corinthos and her husband. He’d left shortly
after she’d clocked his former best friend in the jaw the first time, but not
because he didn’t want to see her let him have it. He was tired from the day
and had other things to take care of, so Max had brought him back home.
The blonde sat her leather jacket on the back of the couch
before sitting on it herself. She was exhausted and angry. Angry at Sonny
Corinthos for thinking that he was still in control when he clearly wasn’t.
That had been taken from him years ago, when he’d disowned her, betrayed his
best friend for the sake of his mistress, and pushed away his wife after he’d
discovered the truth. He’d fallen from his pedestal and she’d made sure it was
a hard one.
And, now, the former kingpin was struggling to hold on to
his coffee empire, which was barely his. She’d let him with almost nothing and
the business had been handed over to Jason, who was happy to take it. Courtney
hadn’t been sure that he would, but he’d surprised her and said yes when she
made the offer. Then, he’d suggested that they combine Pride-Phillips and
Morgan-Corinthos Coffee, which had been changed to Morgan-Morgan coffee. But,
Sonny still had a little bit of his company; one pier and one warehouse.
Everything else belonged to Jason, along with his beautiful wife.
Courtney felt two strong hands make themselves known on her
shoulders as Jason Morgan pulled his wife’s back to the couch and moved his
fingers, kneading the tense muscles. He knew that she was still getting used to
dealing with Sonny this way, especially since he kept trying to rise like a
phoenix from the ashes, which had only been attempted recently. Her husband
didn’t like it either, but there was no way that he was going to let Corithos
rise to power again, not after what they’d done to get there and what he’d done
to them. He’d fallen and the bottom was where he would be staying.
“Mmm, that feels nice,” she said, letting his hands and
fingers relax her.
“How’d it go after I left?”
“Well, he wouldn’t shut up about how he would be in charge
again and told me that this was short lived. So, I took the gun and hit him
with it instead of my fist this time and he got the hint.”
Jason removed his hands from her shoulders and jumped over
the back of the couch, sitting next to her. His former boss and business
partner had definitely gotten more confident as of late and extremely cocky,
almost like he used to be, but he wouldn’t be too hard to control. He had the
tendency to forget that his former enforcer knew more about his business than
he did and could destroy him if he needed to. And, if the blue eyed man needed
to do so to keep him down and to keep him from attempting to hurt Courtney or
anything they’d built in the recent years, he would.
Chapter Two
The sunlight streamed into the window in the bedroom of the
loft, shining the lemon yellow onto the blankets that covered the Morgan’s bed.
Jason lay awake, his muscular arms wrapped around Courtney’s small waist, a
large hand resting on her flat stomach. He loved holding her while she slept,
she was always so peaceful. Reveling in the scent of her golden blond hair, he
thought back to the night before at the warehouse.
It had been just short of chaos, to be quite honest. Sonny
had shown up, ready to lunge at Courtney because she’d been the one to take the
company from him completely before giving him a single warehouse and pier back.
Ever since, her older brother’s rage had intensified to a level that no one had
thought possible, not even Carly. His sister was his main target for now, but
Jason knew that he would soon become one right along with her. Sonny wanted to
destroy her the way she’d destroyed him, but soon he would figure out that
doing it with her husband by her side would be damn close to impossible. So,
Jason would be in the real line of fire soon enough.
Corinthos had pushed and shoved his way into the warehouse
while Marco, Courtney and Jason were discussing their next shipments, raving
about how they were all weak and couldn’t handle the business as well as he was
able to. Jason and his wife had just stared at him, annoyed, until Courtney
really lost it and punched him in the jaw. Minutes after, Jason had to leave
because of something he had to take care of and he was getting tired. He knew
his wife could handle herself, especially when it came to Sonny, so he had no
worries about that. Everything else, she’d told him when they were getting
ready for bed the night before.
Turning his head to look at the alarm clock on the
nightstand on his side of the bed. Jason noticed that they had about two hours
until their next shipment was scheduled to arrive. Courtney had said that she
wanted both of them to be there, just in case her brother had any ideas. This
one was only coffee, but she still didn’t want anyone messing with it. Another
clandestine shipment was supposed to land shortly after midnight and nobody
knew about it besides them and a few of the men. Moving back to his wife, he
nuzzled into her neck, kissing the soft skin to wake her up.
“Jason….” She moaned as the softness of his lips tickled
her. He’d taken to waking her up like that recently, when she’d complained
about the alarm clock.
“We’ve got that shipment coming in.” he reminded her between
kisses.
“I’m about to forget the shipment if you don’t stop
harassing me,” she said, mock scolding in her voice as she rolled onto her
back, pushing him away and pulling the blanket over her head.
Jason laughed at her and moved himself between her legs so
that he was laying on top of his wife underneath the blankets. He put his chin
on her stomach and looked up at her, as well as he could.
“Baby, we’ve got to get up.” He pleaded gently. She’s so
cute in the morning, but he knew that her other side would emerge the
second they got to the warehouse. Seeing that she wasn’t getting up, he pulled
her pajama shirt up and bit her stomach softly.
“Jason Morgan!” she shrieked, still trying to keep up with
the façade that she was irritated. She wasn’t, she just didn’t want to get out
of bed. Sleep sounded a lot better than a coffee shipment.
Courtney sat up, which surprised the man laying on her and
she flipped him over so that now she was laying on his hard stomach, her face
right in front of his.
Her hand went to the side of his face as she kissed him
passionately. Pulling away, she stared into his blue eyes with hers. “I love
you so much.”
His hand stroked her cheek. “I love you, too. With all my heart.”
He kissed her again before releasing her to take a shower while he made his
breakfast special, eggs.
