The Cellar
[Jason has just punched Jax and
Court has asked him to leave]
Alan: Are you ok?
Jax: No, I'm fine.
Mac: Do you want to press
charges?
Jax: No. No.
Mac: All right.
Jax: Let that be a lesson to all
of you -- beware of soliciting charitable contributions from your date's
ex-husband.
Courtney: Are you ok?
Jax: Yeah, I'm fine. Have some
more champagne.
Sam: You can act as cool as you
want, but I am sure you had that coming.
Courtney: Sam, I invited you and
Jason here against Jax’s advice. This is exactly the kind of scene I was trying
to avoid.
Sam: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold
on. Do you think Jason slugged Jax for the hell of it? Come on, the guy was
your husband. You should know him better than that.
Courtney: All I -- all I care
about right now is damage control. This fundraiser is important, Sam.
Sam: This fundraiser is already a
success thanks to Jason. He is the one who sent you the million-dollar check,
not Jax. All he did was take credit for it.
Courtney: Look, I don't know what
kind of angle you're trying to work here, Sam, but --
Sam: What, you don't believe me?
Courtney: Why should I believe
you?
Sam: Why? You know Jason better
than any of us. You know how giving he is and how he has been generous without
any strings attached. Jason doesn't do things unless he believes in them. All
he had to do was write the check and keep quiet about it, but Jax over here has
to showboat with someone else's money. Isn't that right?
Jax: Sam's just trying to stir up
trouble. Just enjoy the rest of the party; see how much more money we can
raise.
Courtney: Jax? Did you write the
check or not?
Jax: Let's deal with this
tomorrow.
Courtney: If you really did write
that check, I need you to prove it.
Courtney: If you really did write
that anonymous check, Jax, all you have to do is show me the paperwork.
Jax: Who wants to deal with
paperwork tonight? Come on, we're having a party.
Courtney: No, why don't you call
your assistant and have her bring over a printout of the transaction.
Jax: Do you really think that's
necessary?
Ric: Yeah, I'm afraid it might
be.
Edward: Who asked you?
Ric: You know, if you can't prove
that you wrote that check, I'm going to have to assume that the funds came from
Jason. In which case I'm going to have to freeze the foundation's funds pending
an investigation into money laundering.
Courtney: That could hold us up
for months.
Alexis: My suggestion is you just
make a call and you straighten it out, and that way we can prove the D.A. is
wrong once again.
Jax: Well, why don't we go over
the records all tomorrow morning over coffee at Kelly’s?
Ric: Is it going to take you that
long to cook the books? I'd like to see that printout tonight, if you don't
mind.
Alexis: What are you going to do?
You going to have Mac take him away in shackles?
Tracy: Commissioner, if he goes,
she goes, right?
Mac: Can you prove the money came
from Jason?
Alexis: That shouldn't be a
problem since Sam McCall is an admitted con artist, prostitute, and thief. Why
would she lie about a man who dumped her? That check could've been written by
anyone. The money could've been donated anywhere. And even if the check is
questionable, Courtney believed that it was from Jax, so she didn't do anything
wrong.
Courtney: Jason makes anonymous
donations to charities all the time.
Tracy: Oh, well, that must be to
save himself the monumental effort of remembering his own name.
Monica: Why can't someone punch
you?
Courtney: Look, if Jason did write
the check, I will return it immediately.
Alexis: That sounds like an
equitable solution. Sorry to disappoint you, but no laws have been broken here.
Ric: As long as the money's
returned to Jason.
Courtney: Oh, I see -- Jason’s
money isn't good enough to help kids. Yeah, understandable, since all of you
are honest, upright, blameless citizens. Look, I don't want there to be any
concern about where the foundation gets its money, so I will return the check
tonight. Enjoy yourselves. It's for a good cause. [she leaves]
Tracy: Well. Didn't I warn you
she was too simple for your taste? Fortunately, I'm in a forgiving mood.
[Jax sniffs]
Jax: Is that the same perfume
that you always wear? What's it called -- desperation?
Tracy: No. It's called timeless
--
Jax: Oh.
Tracy: As in pure love. Pure
passion, as in what your would-be girlfriend feels about her ex. [Love That!]
PH2
[Knock on door]
Courtney: Hey. Jason, look, I
understand what happened tonight.
Jason: No, no, look, I'm sorry if
I ruined your party.
Courtney: No, you didn't. Ok, Jax
had it coming. Look, he was awful tonight, and I'm -- I’m starting to see why
you and Sonny hate him so much.
Jason: What -- what are you doing
here?
Courtney: Did you send this?
Jason: How'd you find out?
Courtney: I thought -- I thought
that Jax did, and -- and he let me believe that until Sam told me the truth. I
can't -- I can't accept the money, Jason. I wish I could.
Jason: No, it's from the coffee
business, Courtney, it's clean.
Courtney: No, I know -- no, no --
I -- believe me, I know you would never undermine the foundation with dirty
money, but Ric’s threatened to freeze the foundation's bank accounts while he
conducts an investigation, and if I accept this, he'll shut us down. Look, I --
I appreciate it, though. [she goes to give him the check but he won't take
it. She puts it on the desk.] Thank
you, anyway.
Jason: You're welcome.
Courtney: Are you happy?
Courtney: Sam hasn't changed
anything.
Jason: Yeah, well, you know, she
-- she hasn't been staying here that long.
Courtney: Well, I'm sure she'll
redo the place after you get married. It's just so strange thinking about you
two as husband and wife. It's a big step. Are you sure that's what you want?
Jason: I want it for the baby.
Courtney: Yeah, but, you know,
you have a right to be happy, too, Jason.
Jason: I'm going to be ok.
Courtney: You used to want more
than "ok."
Jason: You know, if I get to see
Michael and Morgan, it's a great day. I do my job well. I don't really think
about what might've been.
Courtney: I guess that's why this
is all easier on you. You usually don't think about what might've happened. Oh,
anyway, I guess there's no point in looking back, right?
[Jason sighs]
Courtney: I mean, you have a baby
to think of. I'm surprised that she's not here. I mean, I would have thought
after what happened at the party, I mean, I would have thought she would've
come home.
Jason: Yeah, you know, everything
happened so fast, she probably just thought it was easier to let me go, you
know, give me some space.
Courtney: Do you like her?
Jason: Yeah. Yeah, you know, we
don't make any promises we can't keep.
Courtney: Yeah, you got to watch
out for those promises.
Jason: Sam and I are fine. We're
together, and most importantly, our baby's going to have a father.
Courtney: And the best father a
child could ever have.
[Music plays]
Later…
[Courtney has left and Sam comes
home]
Jason: There was someone
searching the penthouse when I came home. He took off before I could see his
face.
Sam: What do you think he wanted?
Jason: Not sure.
Sam: Well, if he didn't get
anything, he's probably going to come back, right?
Jason: Uh -- I'm in the process
of adding more security, ok? You're safe here.
Sam: Yeah, I actually believe
that -- for once in my life.
Jason: Good.
Sam: Jason? I got mad and I told
Courtney that you donated that million-dollar donation to the charity. I'm
sorry.
Jason: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
yeah, Sam, I know. She came back to bring the check.
Sam: She was here?
Jason: Yes.
Sam: Yeah. Jason, you love her,
and she loves you, and this isn't fair. You are giving up everything to be with
me, and I --
Jason: We've made the decision.
We're going to live with it. Now, did you eat any of that food that Sonny
brought?
Sam: No. No, I was getting ready
for the benefit, I didn't have time.
Jason: Ok, well, you want me to
heat it up, or would you like a sandwich?
Sam: I invited Sonny over.
