Jason: If you've hurt Courtney again…

Alcazar: I just saved her life.

Sonny: Then bring her back.

Alcazar: I took her to the hospital.

The hospital

[We see Courtney pulling her hospital gown over her badly bruised shoulder.]

Doctor: Are you in pain?

Courtney: Nothing I can't handle.

Dr: I need you to be honest so I can take care of you.

Courtney: My neck hurts and my shoulders.

Dr: Take it easy for the next day or two. If you have any double vision or the pain doesn't go away…

Courtney: I'll let you know.

Dr: This is a prescription for hydrocodone.

Courtney: Ok.

Dr: I'm very concerned about you Miss Matthews. Is there something that your not telling me? Any medical issues I should be aware of?

Courtney: Not long ago, I um I had a miscarriage.

Waiting area

Sonny: Excuse me, we're here to see Courtney Matthews.

Dr: Are you her family?

Carly: Yes.

Dr: May I ask how you are related.

Carly: Sister, best friend, finace. What's the problem?

Dr: Courtney is being a little vague about how she was injured.

Jason: Where is she?

Dr: Now we haven't ruled out domestic violence.

Jason: You think I hit her?

Carly: That would never happen.

Dr: I have reservations about sending her home.

Carly: Listen you can talk to Bobbie Spencer, Alan or Monica Quartermaine, Jason did not hit Courtney!

Sonny: Hey Dr. we need to see Courtney now.

Outside Courtney's hospital room

Dr: She's right in there.

[Jason is about to go in but Carly stops him]

Carly: Jason, Jason, can I go in first?

Jason: Why?

Carly: Because I have an idea of what she is going through and how she might be feeling. I just think sometimes it's easier to talk to a woman.

Jason: Ok, yeah.

[She goes in]

Jason: I should have gone after Courtney when she ran out.

Sonny: Don't blame yourself.

Jason: Come on Sonny, she was upset, I know that.

Sonny: Courtney's scared, I mean you know. Carly knows how to do this. Courtney, maybe you know Courtney just needs to deal with the pain alone.

[Jason nods]

Courtney's hospital room

[Court is changing behind a curtain]

Carly: Jason's out there.

Courtney: I wish Alcazar hadn't told him. [she comes out from the curtain] I was about to say Jason wouldn't have to know. Why is my first instinct to keep a secret from the man that I am about to marry.

Carly: Because you love him and you're afraid to lose him, and so you want to protect him so he doesn't have to worry about you.

Courtney: Yeah well there isn't anything to worry about anymore. The damage is already done. You know I just told a complete stranger that I had a miscarriage and that I can't have children. Oh God am I ever going to get used to saying those words?

Carly: Oh honey, I know it's hard right now, but you never know. [she runs her hand through Court's hair] Things can definitely change.

Courtney: Not this.

Carly: Let Jason help you.

Courtney: I just keep thinking that I am going to wake up and this nightmare just going to be over. And I'll stop feeling so empty inside. [she puts her head on Carly's shoulder and cries]

Carly: Oh Courtney.

Outside Court's hospital room

[Jason is sitting on the floor when she comes out]

Courtney: Hey.

Jason: You alright?

Courtney: Just a little banged up that's all.

Jason: What happened?

Courtney: I never should have been on the docks alone.

Jason: Do you see who did it?

Courtney: Two guys. I fought back and I woke up here.

Jason: You're pretty bruised up aren't ya?

Courtney: It's nothing.

Jason: Well…[he goes to look under sweater, but she covers herself up more] You in a lot of pain?

Courtney: You know you get banged up all the time, you act like nothing happened. So that's what I'm going to do.

[Courtney heads out and Jason follows her]

Jason: Can I get you anything?

Courtney: I'm fine.

[Jason drops his head and follows her out]

[Jason and Courtney come home.]

Jason: You want to rest?

Courtney: No

Jason: Can I get you something to eat?

Courtney: There's only one thing that I want from you Jason, the truth. What would you have said to me today at the hospital if you could be honest with me?

Jason: I never lied to you.

Courtney: Silence is a lie Jason, I know better than anybody. I kept silent about the pregnancy, I kept silent about loosing our child.

Jason: The miscarriage was an accident Courtney.

Courtney: Yeah caused by me! God Jason, would you just look at what I've done. I mean I flew to South America when you told me to be safe. I fought anybody that got in my way. I jumped into freezing water when that guy he told me that it was suicide. Just like today, I fought those guys when I should have run away.

Jason: This isn't your fault, let's just move on.

Courtney: Why don't you just admit you're mad at me because of today, aren't you? You're mad at me because I lost our child and you're mad because I can't have children ever. We had everything Jason and look what I did, look what I cost us? Why can't you just admit that you hate it?

Jason: Cause I love you.

Courtney Then just tell me the truth!

[Jason storms out and Courtney cries.]

Emily's hospital room

Emily: I wished for you and here you are.

Jason: Why are you all dressed up.

Emily: I'm getting married.

Jason: Today?

Emily: Yeah to Zander.

Jason: You told me you loved Nikolas.

Emily: But Zander, Zander loves me, he wants me to do this.

Jason: What do you want?

Emily: Get – Getting married will help Zander after I'm gone. And I love him, just not the way I love Nikolas.

Jason: Emily you need to do what you think is right.

Emily: In other words I'm making a terrible mistake.

Jason: I didn't say that.

Emily: But you won't try to talk me out of it because it's my choice right?

Jason: No comment.

Emily: If I were going to live, it would be wrong to marry Zander, to pledge my life to one man when I am in love with another. Wouldn't it be something Jase, if my soul could visit Nikolas and tell him how I feel, how much I would have loved to spend my life with him.

Jason: Can't you tell him now?

Emily: It's too late. I won't be, I won't be sorry for what I can't have. You taught me that.

Jason: [crying] I'll always be sorry that you can't be here.

Emily: [crying] Jase, if you and Courtney, if you and Courtney have a daughter, will you name her after me? [Jason sighs] Hey Jase come on, it doesn't have to be a first name.

Jason: No, it's not that. We aren't having any children. Courtney had a miscarriage. You know there were problems and she can't she can't have children.

Emily: God, Jase I'm so sorry.

Jason: Yeah she's just ah she's going through a lot and I've tried to help. I just I just don't know what to do.

Emily: Would you like some advice?

Jason: Yeah.

Emily: Don't let Courtney push you away. No matter what she does, don't let her believe she's not good enough. Don't let her pull away to prove how much she loves you. I wasted so much time. Just love her Jase, love her, keep her close no matter what.

[Courtney is sitting on the couch crying. She wipes away her tears and gets up and throws her prescription in the trash. She heads up the stairs, but stops and almost doubles over in pain/anguish. She runs down and takes a pill, crying.]

Later…

[Jason comes in]

Jason: Courtney!

Courtney: Hey. I um, I took a bath with those eucalyptus salts that Carly gave me and it really helped.

Jason: Good I'm glad that you're feeling better.

Courtney: I'm sorry that I yelled at you.

Jason: I'm sorry that I, that I walked out.

Courtney: Look I don't even know why I said those things.

Jason: Because you've been hurt badly and partly because of me.

Courtney: No that's not true.

Jason: I'm, I'm as much as to blame for all this as you are.

Courtney: No you're not.

Jason: But I'm selfish because I still want you in my life, even if it's dangerous for you.

Courtney: That's what I want too.

Jason: I love you so much.

Courtney: I love you too. And I need you. God Jason you're everything to me.

[They fall into a passionate kiss, moving backwards. Courtney pushes off his jacket and he picks her up and carries her upstairs as "For you" by Duncan Sheik begins to play]
