[Jason And Courtney are cuddling on the couch]

Courtney: Thank you for coming back.

Jason: I always will. I just wish I could make you understand how much i love you.

Courtney: I do. I love you, too. I'm sorry I lashed out at you. You didn't deserve that.

Jason: You wanted to make me angry. You worked at it. Why?

Courtney: Maybe -- maybe because the anger's easier than the grief.

[They are standing by the window now]

Jason: I know losing our baby is so much harder for you.

Courtney: Jason, please. I just -- I can't do this. It just hurts too much.

Jason: I know. I know, but you need to let it out, even if it's a little bit, if that's all you can manage. Just let me help you. Give me some of that pain.

Courtney: I should have told you right away.

Jason: I -- i gave you a lot of reasons not to.

Courtney: Look, I knew that you weren't going to be crazy about the idea. But I wasn't -- I wasn't worried, jason. I knew that once i told you about that baby, all your reservations, they would melt away and you would be just as happy as i was.

Jason: I would have been, I swear.

Courtney: I know.

[They hug]

[Phone rings]

jason: Hold on. Hello. Ok, ok, I'll be right there. It's emily.

Later…

Carly: You're going to have to help me understand this, courtney. If emily may not live through the night, then why are you here? Why aren't you at the hospital with jason?

Courtney: Carly, i offered to go, ok? Jason just said there wasn't anything that I could do.

Carly: Ok, you need to listen to me. If emily dies, jason is going to be devastated and he's going to need you more than ever, no matter what he says. Don't you see this parallel? He's doing the same thing you did. He's trying to spare you. It's not that there's nothing you can do. He wasn't lying when he said that. He was just wrong, like you're going to be wrong if you let him go through this alone. Courtney, there is something you can do. You can be there with him, and being there is everything.

The hospital

Emily: [crying] I'm so glad i had you in my life. I always wanted a big brother. And I won the lottery with you.

Jason: [crying] I feel the same way.

Emily: Thank you, jase, for always telling me the truth whether I wanted to hear it or not. Thank you for -- thank you for loving me so -- so completely.

Jason: I always will. You're a part of me now, forever. I'm so much better for it.

Emily: Does courtney make you happy?

Jason: Yeah.

Emily: That's what I want for you, is a great love that lasts and lasts. This is it, jase. I'm at the rest of my life. Today i promised it to zander. But when i swore to love him like no other man, i was thinking of nikolas. Jason, does that make me an awful person?

Jason: No. No, you can't help who you love.

Emily: I'm so afraid for him, jason. He's in -- he's in a lot of trouble.

Jason: Who is, nikolas?

Emily: Yeah, there are people out there who want to kill him. Please, please don't let that happen.

Jason: No, no, ok, I'll handle it.

Emily: Yeah, I don't know who they are, and I just need you to --

jason: I swear to you I'll find out, ok? Nikolas will stay alive.

Emily: Thank you.

Jason: Why don't you get some rest.

Emily: Jason, i don't want to close my eyes. I might not ever wake up. It's ok, jase. I'm not afraid anymore. I'm just not -- not quite ready.

Jason: Well, you know, people don't end when they die. I mean, no one as good and as brave and full of love could -- could end, emily. And I'm not sure what heaven is, but I know it's better. And I know it's there. You know, the confusion's going to go away and you're going to finally understand why things happened, you know, what you got from being here and what you gave to all of us.

Emily: I love you, jase.

Jason: I love you, too.

Emily: Hi, husband.

Zander: Hey, i don't want to interrupt.

Jason: No, that's ok. Emily is just getting tired. I was just leaving. I won't be far, all right?

[He kisses her forehead and leaves]

Outside…

Monica: What are we going to do without her?

Jason: I don't know, but we're going to have to figure it out.

Monica: Oh, jason.  [She hugs him]

Jason: Thank you for giving me my sister.

Monica: Oh.

The chapel

Jason: God, can you help my little sister? She's afraid to die, but she pretends she isn't. Could you take emily's fear away and just let her know that, you know, it's ok to stop fighting and let go and that all the people she loves will be all right when she's gone? I'm not sure how. I can't imagine this world without emily. All I know is that i can't think about that right now. So just please help me make it ok for her to go.  [Liz puts her hand on his shoulder]

Elizabeth: I was here earlier.

Jason: For the wedding?

Elizabeth: Yeah. It was beautiful and heartbreaking all at the same time.

Jason: Yeah, I bet it was.

Elizabeth: I tried to go home. I got about halfway, and then i had to -- I had to turn back around. I just -- I just can't leave. Emily's my best friend, jason. I don't know how to let her go.

Jason: Look, I know it's hard, but we have to.

Elizabeth: I just can't imagine life without her. Why is this happening?

[She leans her head on his shoulder and Court sees from the back]
